Deviation by M C Cerny

Deviation: an action, behavior, or condition that is different from what is usual or expected; an act or instance of deviating; a noticeable or marked departure from accepted norms of behavior.
Edith Willows has escaped the drugs, abuse, and poverty of her early years, but the scars remain. She is imperfect and damaged. Eager to complete her college degree and leave the past behind, Edith doesn’t anticipate the return of a forbidden crush, threatening to destroy her carefully crafted peace…
Jack Hamilton has the perfect life…a woman who fulfills his needs, a successful business, and an adjunct position at his former school. However, a past indiscretion has haunted him for years and, now, the beautiful dark-haired girl he had no business getting involved with sits just rows away from his podium, all grown-up…
Edith and Jack deviate from the acceptable student/teacher relationship.

I was kindly sent a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I did not find Edith very likeable at all and that probably didn't help with my overall review. Edith worked hard to get to where she is because she has alcoholic parents, I would have liked that to be focused on a little bit more because its admirable. Edith first met Jack at high school when he was her student teacher. They shared a sneaky kiss and she thought nothing more of it until he turns up in a class that she isn't doing so well in.

They start a forbidden romance which I exciting and if this was the main focus of the story then I think that my review would have been top end but the story has so many different elements that there is just soo much going on.
Here is a list of all of the different subjects touched upon in this one short story:
* Teacher student forbidden love.
* Depression
* Sexual assault
*Alcohol abuse
*Mental Illness
and Cutting
These subjects are only ever mentioned briefly so you are not given enough time or information to process what is happening before the next thing is thrown at you.

Overall I gave this story two stars on Goodreads but it did have lots of potential.

Thanks For Reading
